Fonts now hosted locally
I have talked before about how the Harvey Mercheum website uses the Google-hosted webfont Roboto. There has been an ongoing discussion about how enqueuing Google Fonts from the Google CDN exposes visitors’ IP addresses, and how this violates General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). After reading this article:
WordPress.org Strongly Urges Theme Authors to Switch to Locally Hosted Webfonts
I decided to try one of the WordPress plugins mentioned in the article. I had some time to work on the Harvey Mercheum website today, and installed and configured OMGF:
OMGF | GDPR/DSVGO Compliant, Faster Google Fonts. Easy.
It seems to be working correctly, and the website still looks the same to me. If you notice anything different, or if anything is not working, please leave a comment below, or use the Contact the Curator form, thank you!
