One of the many great things that happened at TerrifiCon 2022 happened at the very end, Sunday afternoon just before everything shut down. I decided to do one last walk around the dealer’s area. I never did cover the whole floor because it was so large and I was busy running my corner booth 143. I went in a direction I had not gone before, and quickly spotted an interesting booth.
Frames were hung all over the booth partitions, and they contained collages of comic covers and panels. This was the Codakhrome Comic Shop, and I knew right away what I wanted to do. I have always liked the cover of Richie Rich, The Poor Little Rich Boy #17, but after the art was reused for the last issue #254, it acquired special meaning. I felt that the art would work well as a “Cover Pop” collage. Time was running out, so I quickly explained my concept, got a very reasonable preliminary quote and we exchanged contact information. Once home, I had to find a copy of the book to use, for cost purposes I found a #254 not a #17. Then I had to pick panels from the inside, either random ones or ones that told a story. I was very fortunate that there were a number of good stories in that issue, and was able to pick more than enough panels for the project. I marked the panels with Post-It notes and sent the book off to Doctor Chopper for him to work his magic. I received the final product Saturday, Christmas Eve! The results exceeded my expectations, see for yourself:
My thanks to Doctor Chopper, and if you have a comic that is special to you, consider sending a copy to him for a truly one-of-a-kind piece you will be proud to hang on your wall!
