Today is World Wide Web Day, a day to celebrate by browsing the Web! One website you should be sure to visit today is the World Wide Web Foundation. Learn about how they are working for a world where everyone has the same rights and opportunities online!
The last of our Special Days for a while, today is International Museum Day! The theme for 2019 is “Museums as Cultural Hubs: The future of tradition”. While I like the idea of museums serving as cultural hubs of communities, I would like to point out that public libraries can serve this roll as well, perhaps even better than museums because they do not charge admission. Regardless, I appreciate the efforts of ICOM, and encourage all of you to take a moment today to consider the role of museums in your life and your community.
Today is Free Comic Book Day (FCBD)! This is the closest thing there is to a holiday for comic book fans. And, unlike the last couple of years, I am actually going to be around to participate! I can’t wait to see what Casper’s Spooksville is like!
Things have been insanely busy around here recently, but I did want to take a moment to acknowledge World Intellectual Property Day. This year’s campaign is “Reach for Gold”, taking a closer look inside the world of sports. It seems fitting to look back today upon one of the few sports-themed items in the permanent collection, the Richie Rich Baseball Set:

This week was also Preservation Week. Take a moment to review the resources made available by the American Library Association.
Today is SiteGround‘s 15th anniversary! The Harvey Mercheum website has been hosted by SiteGround for just over two years now, and I have been very happy so far. Congratulations SiteGround, here’s to many more! Check out this infographic showcasing some of their milestones:

Finishing our holiday retrospective for 2018, today let’s look back at two great Richie Rich items:

And while we’re reminiscing, let’s also look back at two holiday greeting cards given out by Harvey Comics to their employees:
Merry Christmas to all my readers!
Today is Local Comic Shop Day! While I will be missing out on the fun, I hope some of you get to visit your friendly local comic shops!
Today is National Comic Book Day! While Free Comic Book Day gets more attention, today is a good day to celebrate a truly American art form. Take a moment to read a comic book today!
Today is Museum Day! Did you get your tickets already? I hope so, because I just finished reading the book we bought to accompany a museum exhibit we saw earlier this summer, and while it was very nicely made, the photos really did not do justice to the artwork. It is much better to see exhibits in person if possible, and today is a great day to do so. Search for a participating museum near you and go visit!
